In the United States, surrogacy attracts intended parents from around the world. Surrogates and parents share their experiences of a journey that they describe as positive and life-changing.

For many people, the path to parenthood is not straightforward. In the United States, surrogacy offers one option for couples and individuals, including same-sex couples. We follow two families whose lives have been shaped by gestational surrogacy: a gay couple in Los Angeles who built their family with the help of surrogates, and a Florida mother who carries babies for intended parents. The report explores the relationships, emotions and practical steps involved in the surrogacy process, as well as the motivations of those taking part. Supporters describe surrogacy as a partnership that helps make parenthood possible, while debate over the practice continues in many countries.
