Sweden: Man shot dead outside mosque
August 15, 2025
A 25-year-old man was shot dead after leaving a mosque in the Swedish city of Orebro on Friday, local police confirmed.
"We are speaking to eye witnesses," a police spokesman told the AFP news agency, adding that officers were looking for the "culprit or culprits."
Another man, also reportedly in his 20s, was also injured in the incident which is believed to linked to organized crime.
"I want to stress that currently, we don't see any connection to the mosque," said the police spokesman. "On the other hand, we do see a connection to criminal groups."
Police have launched investigations into murder, attempted murder and aggravated weapons offenses.
Swedish authorities have been battling against armed criminal gangs for several years now.
Criminal gangs often recruit teenagers in socially disadvantaged immigrant neighborhoods to carry out hits.
Local broadcaster TV4 reported recent tensions between two rival Orebro gangs.
Second shooting this year in Orebro
Orebro, located around 200 kilometers (124 miles) west of the capital, Stockholm, made headlines earlier this year when a 35-year-old forced his way into an adult education center and shot dead ten people before turning his weapon on himself.
The incident was the deadliest firearms incident in Swedish history.
