Syria still scarred after 14-year civil war

Many hoped the end of the civil war would bring relief and a measure of prosperity to Syria. Visiting the ruined town of Daraya near Damascus, DW's correspondent found out that rebuilding has barely begun.

One year after the fall of Bashar Assad, Daraya remains in ruins. Once home to 200,000 people, the Syrian town was devastated by airstrikes during the civil war.

Despite promises of reconstruction and justice, residents still live in destroyed homes, struggling to survive. With no aid and soaring inflation, rebuilding feels impossible — and peace remains out of reach.
