Tackling Climate Change - The Run-up to Montreal

At the Montreal Climate Change summit, members of the Kyoto Protocol will be meeting for the first time since the agreement went into February. Industrialised countries have pledged to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions which have affected the climate over the past century.

It is the responsibility of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to set the groundwork for intergovernmental co-operation to tackle the challenge posed by climate change. The UNFCCC, whose secretariat in is in Bonn, Germany, gathers data, offers its expertise on how to implement strategies on how to reduce emissions and also co-operates in preparing to adapt to the impacts of climate change.

Leading up to the Montreal Climate Change summit which starts on November 28, Deutsche Welle’s environment programme "Living Planet" is speaking with various officials from the UNFCCC about topics such as data collection, Kyoto Protocol implementation and scientific programmes among other things.
