Taipei bursts with color for East Asia's largest Pride march

Organizers said around 150,000 people turned out for Taiwan's 23rd annual Pride Parade. The march highlighted empathy and inclusiveness, as many participants voiced concern over a global rise in anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment.

Taiwan legalized same-sex marriage in 2019, making it the first country in Asia. Pride participants say society has become more open and inclusive since.

Despite progress at home, many worry about rising anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment abroad — from policy rollbacks in the US to tightening restrictions in China and Hong Kong.
