Although the defence ministry said it was racing to find survivors, relatives were angry, claiming that the government's reaction to the disaster had been slow and rescue efforts inefficient.
President Ma Ying-jeou travelled to the county of Yunlin on Thursday to inspect the relief efforts and was confronted by desperate family members.
