Lobsang Phuntsok is a former Buddhist monk who spent years as a spiritual teacher in America, before returning to the Himalayan foothills of his infancy. There he has set up Jhamtse Gatsal Children’s Community, a home for abandoned children. Tashi, a little girl with a traumatic past, is the newest arrival. She will be his toughest challenge yet.

Buddhist monk Lobsang Phuntsok was chosen by the Dalai Lama to share Tibetan Buddhism with the West, but left behind a life as a spiritual teacher in the US and returned to the region of his birth to try and rescue children from suffering. He set up a unique community in the foothills of the Himalayas called Jhamtse Gatsal (Tibetan for ‘The Garden of Love and Compassion'), which provides a permanent home for orphaned or abandoned children all learning to live compassionately. Tashi is new to the community of over 80 children. Her mother passed away and she was abandoned by her alcoholic father. A wild and troubled five-year-old, Tashi struggles initially to find her place in her new home. Gradually, as Lobsang and the community work their magic, we witness her transformation into someone capable of making her first real friend.
