Phil Gayle talks to Farzan Sabet
April 6, 2026

The United States seems to have called for a temporary ceasefire which would have strengthened the US' hand and weakened Iran, says Farzan Sabet of Geneva Graduate Institute. To Iran it would effectively mean surrender.

Iran has reject the latest proposal for a truce, despite US President Donald Trump's threat that he will destroy Iran's vital infrastructure if no deal was reached. In turn, Iran has said that it would respond "crushingly" if the US follows through with those threats. DW speaks to Farzan Sabet of the Geneva Graduate Institute, an independent Swiss-based organization which focuses on international affairs.
