January 16, 2015

The penultimate stage of the competition finished in Rosario with a native picking up the stage win. But with the final stage to come, it's a second championship for the Qatari to lose.

Nasser Al-Attyiah remains in pole position to win his second Dakar Rally championship, but it was Mini team-mate Orlando Terranova who claimed his fourth stage win in Stage 12.

But the 44-year-old Qatari still holds an untouchable lead of 36 minutes, which he extended by seven minutes on Friday.

Al-Attyiah, the 2011 champion, finished fourth-quickest on the 185-mile stretch from Termas de Rio Hondo to Rosario before the last stage weaves into the capital Buenos Aires tomorrow.

Terranova, who has recovered well from an early accident at the Rally, had previously won in stages one, three and seven.

The Argentine's fourth win of this year's Dakar Rally continues an impressive performance from the Mini team, which has won 11 of the 12 stages.

Meanwhile, Spaniard Marc Coma will hold an 18-minute lead going into the final race of the Motorbike discipline in Buenos Aires on Saturday.

Coma consolidated his lead after cautiously riding to sixth-place in the 12th stage with Australian Toby Price dominantly winning the race having led from the very beginning.

Price, overall third place in the standings, won with a six-minute 25 second advantage with Honda's Paulo Goncalves still holding on to his second spot.

Coma will be expected to take his fifth title when the race reaches the Argentine capital at the weekend.
