Terror Suspect Can Resume Studies

August 24, 2004

Moroccan citizen Abdelghani Mzoudi, who is suspected of having aided the Sept. 11 terrorists, may continue his studies, a Hamburg administrative court ruled Tuesday. The Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW) had refused to re-admit Mzoudi. However, the court said that neither the 31-year-old's "radical Islamic fundamentalist" beliefs nor the many semesters Mzoudi had already studied at HAW -- a reason the university gave -- were grounds to bar him from the institution. Mzoudi was acquitted of membership in a terrorist organization and accessory to murder in around 3,000 cases in February. An appeal to the verdict has been underway since August 10.
