Volvo set out to combine mobility and driving pleasure in the Plug-in Hybrid version of its V60. A high-torque 158-kW diesel and a 50-kW electric motor provide the power.

The common-rail turbo charged diesel comes into its own on long highway stretches or cross-country trips, while the both systems can team up for city driving. In purely electric mode, the state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery allows for a range of up to 50 kilometers. The V60 Hybrid's fuel consumption is rated at just 1.8 liters per 100 kilometers. But the green technology has its price. Drive It! sets out to discover if it pays off in fuel savings for day-to-day driving.
