Thai authorities vow to end protests

May 12, 2010

Red-shirted anti-government demonstrators in Thailand have rejected a new deadline to vacate their encampment. The government threatened on Wednesday to cut off all supplies to the area in central Bangkok.

Red Shirts, some holding portraits of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, listen to the national anthem. They say they will not budge until the deputy premier surrenders to police to face charges for his role in a crackdown that turned deadly. The government says it may withdraw plans for early elections if the demonstrators do not go home.
