Thai film wins Palme D'Or

May 24, 2010

Thai film director Apichatpong Weerasethakul dedicated the prize for his surreal "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives" at the Cannes film festival to his fellow Thais.

Apichatpong Weerasethakul is an outspoken critic of government censorship but his award-winning movie is not political at all. It is the sixth Asian film to ever win the Palme d'Or. South Korean director Lee Chang-Dong won the best screenplay award.
