The Plumen 001 has been billed as the world's first designer energy-saving light bulb. Its creators, British inventor Samuel Wilkinson and the Hulger product design company, were selected as the winner of the 2011 Brit Insurance Design of the Year award. The imaginatively sculpted Plumen 001 is even on display in New York's Museum of Modern Art.
