The budget that the German cabinet has approved today for 2011, contains not only huge and controversial savings that will affect many people in this country. It also means that Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble will have to take on new debt reaching a record level of 65 Bbillion Euros next year. It is only thanks to the robust revival of the German economy that this figure is not even higher. Still, what's under fire from many sides, are the saving proposed by Angela Merkel's coalition government of conservatives and the business-friendly Free Democrats.
