The Bundestag has extended Germany's mandate in Afghanistan by another year

Germany's parliament has voted to extend the Bundeswehr's mandate for Afghanistan but made no pledge to commit additional forces -- despite US President Barack Obama's call for other NATO members to follow the US example and send reinforcements. Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said the focus of the mission needs to shift to creating the conditions necessary for Afghanistan to take over responsibility for its own security.
