German reunification came with a hefty price tag. But what did the hundreds of billions go for?

Though some of the programs were controversial - like the one-to-one currency exchange rate - in the end it doesn’t seem to have harmed the economy. The massive transfer of funds from west to east spurred an economic boom in western Germany as well as in the former east. Anna Wills and Andreas Neuhaus give us some facts and figures.
