Hip fractures are among the typical injuries of old age. A femoral fracture can often be repaired surgically - with an artificial hip implant - but the aftermath of the injury can be time-consuming and dangerous for patients. Among the common complications of hip fractures are pneumonia, chronic pain, arthritis and reduced mobility.
