Apple cake

Dagmar Zillig's favorite food is apple cake. Here is her recipe.

Ingredients

Bottom layer:

75 g butter or margarine

100 g sugar

1 packet of vanilla sugar (or 1 tsp vanilla extract)

1 egg

375 g flour

4 level teaspoons baking powder

1/8 l milk

Mix all ingredients together to form a ball of dough and press into a baking sheet or rectangular form.

Middle layer:

1.5 kg apples

Peel and slice the apples, arrange the slices on the layer of dough.

Top layer:

500 ml milk

70 g semolina

2 tablespoons sugar

100 g butter

6 eggs, separated

Directions:

Cook the semolina with the milk and the sugar until it forms a paste.

Stir the butter into the semolina until it melts and let the mixture cool.

When the semolina has thoroughly cooled, add the egg yolks.

Beat the egg whites until they form soft peaks and fold into the semolina mixture.

Spread the foamy mixture over the apples.

Bake the cake in an oven that has been preheated to 180 – 200°C until golden.
