The European Union's first high representative for foreign affairs has marked her first 100 days in office by laying out a stark choice for the EU - saying it must pull together in foreign policy or be sidelined by China and India. Speaking to the EU parliament - Britain's Catherine Ashton said Europe was declining as a world power and losing influence. Europe's share of the world's population has fallen dramatically from a quarter a century ago to just 7 percent, and its share of global output lags behind Asian powers.
