The future of Opel plants in Germany remains uncertain - as General Motors struggles for survival

General Motors has not made any final decision regarding the fate of its European subsidiaries. This according to German officials who met Wednesday in Detroit with GM management. GM announced late Tuesday that it plans to cut 47 thousand jobs worldwide, more than half of them in Europe. The German officials said Opel, which has four plants in Germany, has been told to work out a cost saving plan and that GM is open to negotiating with third parties interested in taking a stake in Opel.
