The Greens: Germany's New Number One?

Polls say Germany’s Greens have ousted Angela Merkel’s conservative Christian democrats as the country’s most popular party. Could Germany’s next chancellor even be a Green? Our guests: Wolfgang Merkel (Political scientist), Ursula Weidenfeld (Freelance journalist), Maximiliane Koschyk (DW).

Wolfgang Merkel is a professor for Political Science at the Social Science Center, WZB in Berlin. He says: “The Greens are the party of the privileged and as such their natural upper limit may be touched at 20 percent.”

Ursula Weidenfeld is a business journalist and she says: “No other party has struggled as much as the Greens to accept the spirit of the market economy.”
