The Head of the German Catholic Church meets with Pope Benedict amidst a widening scandal of child abuse

Pope Benedict 16th has himself become the subject of allegations in connection with the German catholic churches failure to protect victims of child abuse. The church has confirmed that the Pontiff was Archbishop of Munich when a priest accused of abusing children was transferred there in the early 1980ies. The chaplain was later allowed to resume work and was eventually convicted of abusing young boys. Meanwhile the head of Germany's Catholic Church has formally apologised to victims of child abuse by catholic clergy after meeting the Pope in the Vatican.
