Scientists and doctors are tracking a naturally occurring contamination problem that's endangering millions in eastern India. What solutions are available?

Bihar is at the center of a growing public health crisis in eastern India. Millions of people there are exposed to an invisible toxin in groundwater. The problem is not manmade and nor is it confined to Bihar.

Government-backed piped water projects and filtration systems are expanding access to safer water, but maintaining this infrastructure remains a challenge, especially in remote communities.

Experts say that increasing public awareness, regular water testing, and sustainable water solutions are essential to protecting the health of an estimated 70 million Indians.
