As of May 2011, the EU's Worker Registration Scheme will cease to exist - that means that EU citizens can work without a work permit all over the bloc, including in Germany, and will also have full access to benefits. There are no minimum wages in Germany for many workers, and in these sectors in particular, many fear an onslaught of cheap labor from Eastern Europe. It raises the question: How much do you need to earn to get by without social assistance?
