Young males in Germany with a Kurdish background are being recruited by the armed militant group the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK. About two thousand young men between the ages of 18 and 22 are estimated to have travelled to the Turkish-Iraq border to fight for the PKK. Their training centre is in Belgium close to the German border but there is also another camp in the Netherlands. The young recruits have sworn loyalty to the imprisoned PKK founding leader Abdullah Ocalan
