Angola hopes to benefit from global competition for raw materials. The country is poor, lies in a region rich in mineral resources.
Export plans would see from the interior to the Atlantic coast via the Lobito Corridor. A railway line already exists. With Western funding, it is to be expanded to transport cobalt and copper from the Congo and Zambia to the port of Lobito. The EU has already invested 70 million euros in infrastructure projects. The people hope that things will now improve for them and that they will benefit from the global competition for Africa's raw materials.
