Germany's Social Democratic Party, the SPD, is currently doing a bit of soul-searching at a gathering of some 3000 delegates in the city of Nuremberg.The Party leader, Kurt Beck, has his work cut out for him: three years into its governing coalition with the conservative Christian Democrats under Chancellor Angela Merkel, the party has plummeted in the opinion polls.
