The spine - how does it work?

The spine is made up of 34 vertebrae. Curved in a gentle S-shape, it acts as a shock absorber that protects the brain. A lack of exercise can lead to back pain. The spinal disc, chord and muscles all support the spine while preserving flexibility. Well-trained stomach and back muscles prevent pain in the spinal region.
