For his documentary The Duel – Merkel vs. Schulz filmmaker Stephan Lamby observes the campaign of both politicians from early 2017 – on the street, in TV studios, and as they go about their everyday work. The film presents a detailed picture of the differing political styles of the two candidates in the race for the chancellorship – their strengths and their deficits. It explores how the Chancellor makes shrewd use of the international stage and how both candidates are reacting to the current issues of summer 2017. It features extensive interviews with both politicians, and also hears the views of allies, opponents, political scientists and election strategists.
