The Vienna Boys Choir
December 21, 2016For the traditional New Year's concert, the choir joins the Vienna Philharmonic in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in the Austrian capital under conductor Mariss Jansons. The film immerses itself in the everyday life of the young musicians, between excitement, fame, hard work and football. Music determines everything in the lives of the some 100 active Viennese choristers. Voice training, rehearsals, boarding school in the Augartenpalais, regular concerts, opera performances and touring all over the world are part of the routine for the nine to fourteen-year-olds. Once a year, they go off on a major four-week tour, when there are no lessons, just sightseeing and singing on the itinerary. You do not have to be Viennese to join the choir: many of the choristers come from countries such as Canada, Japan or Korea.
