Off Tanzania's coast, Husna Aminu trains female divers and grows coral fragments in underwater nurseries. Her team works with local fishers to restore coral reefs that support marine life and livelihoods.

Off the coast of Tanzania, marine conservationist Husna Aminu and her team are working to restore coral reefs in the rural district of Kilwa. As climate change, coral bleaching and overfishing threaten marine ecosystems and local livelihoods, the organization Action for Ocean is building coral nurseries to help damaged reefs recover.

Aminu, one of Tanzania's first female marine experts, is also training a new generation of divers, including more women, to support restoration efforts. Working alongside local fishing communities, the team hopes to protect biodiversity, strengthen fish populations and raise awareness about the importance of ocean conservation before more reefs are lost.
