The army in Thailand has fired teargas, water cannon and rubber bullets to disperse the protestors from a central Bangkok district. Overnight there were reports of gunfire, explosions and sporadic clashes. On Thursday one protestor was shot dead and a former general seriously injured. Violence has escalated after a reconciallation plan offered by prime minister Abhisit Vijjajiva fell through.
