The all-wheel version of the xDrive25d has a new 2-liter, 4-cylinder diesel engine with 170 kW. On a country road, the X1 is powered solely by its front wheels, allegedly limiting fuel consumption to 5 l of fuel per 100 km.

Drive it! took out the xDrive25d all-wheel version of the latest X1 upgrade, which has a two-liter, four-cylinder engine that churns out 170 kW of power. The smart new system saves both fuel and emissions. If the X1 is rolling down a standard road in good conditions, the power train only engages the front wheels. But off-road it kicks in the rear axle as well.
