In July 2024, during the fighting between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah, a rocket fell on a playground, killing 12 children. DW visited the town of Majdal Shams to see how the community has been coping with the tragic loss.

A year after a missile strike killed 12 children in Majdal Shams, grief still grips the Golan Heights community. Families mourn their loved ones, including 16-year-old Nazem and 9-year-old Jivara, victims of a conflict they had no part in.

Parents and locals call for peace, not revenge, as psychological support struggles to meet the emotional toll. The attack, blamed by Israel on Hezbollah, remains disputed.
