From German Chancellor Angela Merkel's New Year's visit in Washington to the success of German cars at the Detroit auto show, plenty of European politicians and business leaders have been making the trip across the pond.
Merkel has said she intends to strengthen both EU-US and German-US relations, but Washington has received an earful of criticism from European capitals over its recent air strikes in Somalia and President George W. Bush's plan to send more troops into Iraq.
