Alexander Gerst is due to realize a childhood dream later this year. The 37 year old will be the third German astronaut to work on the International Space Station. In May he is scheduled to head to the ISS where he will spend six months as a flight engineer.

He will also be conducting scientific experiments, such as in an electromagnetic furnace designed to study molten metal in microgravity. The materials could find application in aircraft or cars and help save fuel. Tomorrow Today visits the geophysicist on earth as he prepares for his mission.
