Brazil's Supreme Court has begun weighing the case against Jair Bolsonaro, the former president charged with planning a coup after losing the 2022 election. Bolsonaro could face over 40 years in prison if convicted.

Brazil's Supreme Court has entered the final phase in the trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is accused of plotting a coup after losing the 2022 election. Prosecutors say he and allies sought military support to overturn the result and even drafted plans to poison President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Bolsonaro denies wrongdoing, calling the trial politically motivated. The verdict is expected within the coming weeks.
