Trump and Xi hold high-stakes US-China summit in Beijing

US President Donald Trump is meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping for pivotal talks in Beijing. Xi welcomed Trump with an elaborate ceremony and said that both countries should focus on cooperation, not rivalry.

US President Donald Trump and China's President Xi Jinping have begun high-level talks in Beijing, marking the first visit of a US president to China since 2017. Like back then, Xi welcomed Trump with an elaborate ceremony, saying both sides should be "partners, not rivals." Trump echoed the cordial tone. Despite this, disputes over Taiwan, trade and technology persist, with Xi warning in closed talks that tensions could lead to conflict.
