After months of gridlock, US President Donald Trump has finally secured a long-awaited ceasefire and hostage deal between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist militant group Hamas. So, how did the agreement come about? And is it all it's cracked up to be?

After two years of war in Gaza, US President Donald Trump's peace plan is gaining traction.

A breakthrough in indirect talks between Hamas and Israel in Egypt has launched phase one of Trump's 20-point proposal.

Negotiators in Doha, Qatar, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner were all key to the agreement.

Still, it seems that Trump's determination was what made it happen.
