Here in Germany, optimistic developments in overall employment contrast with a new round of corporate downsizing. While the latest jobless figures give reason to hope that Europe's biggest economy still possesses some resilience, some of the country's biggest and most successful companies clearly believe they need to cut jobs to get down to fighting weight. THis week Siemens, Henkel and the private postal delivery company Pin announced cuts -- and now BMW says more than eight thousand workers must go. And before that, the Finnish mobile phone manufacturer Nokia pulled the plug entirely on its factory in Bochum. We sent a team to talk to people whose jobs are threatened.
