Last year, fresh from his national election victory, french President Nicolas Sarkozy had big ambitions for his turn at the EU's helm, ranging from a new Mediterranean Union to a summit on the euro. He also expected to usher in the Lisbon treaty and start the search for a long term president for the bloc. Many of those plans have either been watered down or scrapped. Our first report takes a look at what's left of Sarkozy's EU ambitions.
