Turk top court decides not to close AKP - je 30.07.2008 18

Turkey's highest court has decided NOT to go ahead with a ban of the governing AK party. The chief prosecutor had asked the court to close the AKP down for allegedly trying to replace the country's secular system with Sharia - or Islamic - law. However the judges DID fine the party, calling the financial sanction a "serious warning" to the party's leaders.
