Turkey: Role Model?

For many north African countries, Turkey represents the ideal role model. They believe Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, has combined religion and reform, acting as a partner to both the east and the west.

Morocco has already created its own version of the AKP, taking the Turkish version as its model. And a growing number of opposition leaders have called on Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for support in building their own Turkish-style democracies. But is Turkey actually a model for the Arab world? Opposition groups there say they're increasingly under pressure. They accuse the Islamic-rooted government of pushing Turkey to the right and allowing fundamentalism to grow.
