The storm slammed into the country's coast with strong winds and torrential rains, taking off roofs and flattening houses. Now, communites are assessing the damange — and for some, there's no home to return to.

Typhoon Kalmaegi has devastated Vietnam's south-central coast, destroying dozens of homes and leaving 1.6 million people without power. In Jya Lye province, residents salvage belongings from ruins, while shrimp farmers report total losses as ponds merge with the sea. Authorities warn neighboring Cambodia and Laos as the storm moves northwest, after killing nearly 200 in the Philippines.
