Ukrainian officials say at least two people were killed and a dozen injured after Russia fired more than 500 drones and missiles overnight. The onslaught was part of an escalating bombing campaign that has dashed hopes of a ceasefire. Kyiv has renewed its calls for more air defense systems.

During another night of air raid alarms across Ukraine, residents of Kyiv once again took shelter in underground stations. The country's air defense systems successfully intercepted a large-scale aerial assault, including over 500 aerial weapons — mostly drones — and around 60 missiles, making it Russia's largest air attack since the war in Ukraine began.

Nearly 90% of the incoming threats were neutralized. However, some damage occurred, notably in the town of Smila in the Cherkasy region, where a college and three high-rise buildings were hit. At least six people, including a child, were injured.

Ukraine also suffered a setback when an F-16 fighter jet crashed during the defense operation, killing the pilot. This marks the third F-16 Ukraine has lost in combat. While Western allies have pledged around 70 F-16s to bolster Ukraine’s air force, Kyiv insists it needs at least 128 to effectively counter Russia's aggression.
