More than 2,000 children live behind the front lines in Ukraine. Many families refuse to leave and try to give their children a life as close to normalcy as possible — with playground visits, basement classes and sports they can practice with other kids their age.

During Russia's war in eastern Ukraine, children in Druzhkivka and Kramatorsk navigate daily life amid air-raid sirens and shattered schools. Some children turn to hobbies like martial arts to give their life some structure, others find refuge in basement classrooms. Despite evacuation orders, many families stay — clinging to routine, community and hope. They dream of a peaceful and normal life for their kids.
