Ukraine's troubles far from over

After a turbulent, violent year that saw the overthrow of the government and an ongoing war with pro-Russian separatists, Ukrainians hope for peace and economic stability in 2015.

Ukraine's status on New Year's Day 2015: The war in the east continues, the death toll mounts, the economy is in tatters, corruption remains rampant, and the new parliament is composed mostly of the same old faces - most parliamentarians have close connections to Ukraine's oligarchs, who control much of the economy. Polish and Lithuanian weapons shipments are unlikely to help bring peace to the country.
