Aside from the fun factor, football is also a serious earner. In the 2006/2007 season the German Football League posted record revenues of 1.75 billion euros for its professional divisions - with much of the money coming from media and marketing deals. The relegation of a team like Hansa Rostock, however, can have a negative impact on the entire region. Cities that are home to newly promoted clubs, meanwhile, can look forward to an accompanying economic upswing. Reporter Dan Hirschfeld went to Rostock and Mönchengladbach to compare the moods.
