US-China trade deal in sight

US President Donald Trump said Monday that the US and China are close to a trade deal after weekend talks at the ASEAN summit in Malaysia. Trump and Chinese leader Xi will meet on Thursday in South Korea.

President Donald Trump says progress is being made, though no deal is finalized. Negotiators outlined a framework to halt new tariffs and rare earth export controls.

The White House claims that China will resume major US farm purchases, including soybeans, after a $12.8 billion loss to American farmers. Both sides call the discussions constructive ahead of this week's leaders' meeting in South Korea.
